The Academy

The Braintree Town Football Academy reflects an ethos which combines the provision of football excellence with a full-time education programme.

Emphasis on progressing Academy players into the First Team squad (National League) and Witham Town FC (Ryman North)

EDUCATION

BSc in Sports Science & coaching football:

  • Bsc (Hons) in Science and Coaching (Football) is a 3 year full-time course which runs from September to June in each year. All teaching, assessment and verification is online allowing students to organise their degree work around training and game schedules or other work commitments.

    The multi-disciplinary qualification provides theoretical, practical and vocational learning giving students the opportunity to become part of the football industry.

BTEC Level 3 – National Diploma in Sport:

  • The 180 Credit Level 3 Extended Diploma that you will gain if you complete 180 credits deepens the specialist work related focus. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Levels.
  • If you complete this qualification with a distinction star, this is worth 420 UCAS Points.

BTEC Level 2

  • Pearson BTEC Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport – worth up to 3 GCSE’s, and will facilitate entrance to Level 3 study or progression to employment.
  • GCSE English and/or Maths ‐ For those who just miss out on a C grade in English and/or Mathematics, we provide tuition to retake these all important qualifications. Essential for those that want to move on to University.
  • Functional skills level 2 in English and/or Maths – For those that missed out on GCSE English and/or Mathematics, functional skills may be the best route for progression.

SUCCESSES SO FAR:

2014/15 Season: Three Academy players made their First team debuts for Braintree Town F.C. in the Vanarama National League with Joe Maybanks signing a two year contract

2015/16 Season: Seven Academy players have signed first team forms for Braintree Town F.C. with Alfie Walker making his debut against Dover Athletic

Four Academy players currently on loan to Ryman teams

Two Players have represented Suffolk U18 squad

Currently four ex-football college players employed as coaches for Braintree Town Academy

2016/17 Season: Five academy players made their 1st team debuts for Braintree Town – Five players made their 1st team debuts for Witham Town Fc in the Ryman North.

Loan watch: Lewis Soraf is currently at Ware FC in the Ryman North – Matthew Baxter is currently at Grays Athletic in the Ryman Premier – Luke Mallett is currently at Witham Town FC.
